At first, I was a bit nervous, because I really had to loosen up the thumbwheel in order to get the lever inside to push down to get the clamp to close, and wasn't sure if that'd be enough to hold everything secure, but it was - I'd just feel way more comfortable if the clamp closed all the way around the Whispbar. I do have to comment on SIGYEO's pictures - as is visible, the "clamps" on the new Skyboxes don't really close all the way onto Whispbars. It does have more trunk space than my old Passat, but now the cargo of this little buggy is massive. Having owned it for a little over 12 hours, I gotta say, I'm liking the Skybox. I didn't notice any noise over the usual road noise. The drive home saw me doing 70+ on the turnpike, rack and cargo box all good. We lifted it up, adjusted all the clamps, all set. So popped down last night after work, box it comes in is huge, asked the guy working there, "can you give me a hand and help me put this up on the roof rack". Plus, DE is tax free shopping and just realized yesterday that Yakima is running a rebate! each way in other words, a quick, short trip for a TDI. Turns out the closest store to me is in Delaware, ~50 mi. Fawn Creek Township is in Montgomery County. I've been shopping around for a Skybox 16 found a good price at West Marine - ship to store for $0 better than the ~$60 shipping at other sites (truck freight / oversize). Fawn Creek Township is located in Kansas with a population of 1,618. Just to put a bow on it, here's the follow-up.īought the S53 Whispbars a month ago. I'd really rather not have crossbars that stick up another 3" above the factory rails - kinda makes the factory rails seem somewhat useless should've made them higher.īTW, I do NOT have a sunroof, so don't care at all about whether or not my sunroof "clears" whatever's on my roof. no towers, just the crossbars on factory rails? Is Yakima full of s***? cargo boxes really work with the S53 kit that just clips to the factory siderails, i.e. racks are listed as compatible with the S53 bars on a '12 JSW.ĭo Skybox, etc. STM Canna turnkey pre-roll production machines offer a modular one-tray automation system for companies of all sizes. None of the cargo boxes, none of the bike, boat, ski, etc. However, when I put my vehicle info into Yakima's fitment guide, the only things that show up as "useable" with the S53's are the loadwarrior, etc. I read through the massive (19 page) post on this, and seem to see a lot of people are going with the S53 Whispbars that "flush fit" to the factory raised siderails on the JSW. I'd like to go with a rooftop cargo box (e.g. So, we have a few camping trips coming up this year, and I just got my '12 JSW in December.
